We enjoyed our stay with Edith at her B and B in Vienna's Innere Stadt. We were traveling with our son and daughter in law and our two granddaughters aged 1 and 4. Having both apartments gave us the perfect blend of privacy and accessibility and put us within walking distance of everything we wanted to see and do as well as the convenient subway system. The little park across the street was a wonderful place for the little ones to use up some excess energy. The only negative, a small one, is that the internet never really worked properly. It was a wonderful vacation and very interesting listening to Edith tell stories of old Vienna, Hungary and Europe. She also gave us many good suggestions of places to visit, things to do and restaurants. She was a very gracious hostess.Mike B
This apartment is in a very good location in the inner staadt of Vienna. Easily accessible by car. Parking is available for free on weekends and during night hours directly in front of the building.
It was a bit of a challenge to get into the building when we arrived as it too a long time and multiple attempts of ringing the doorbell to get Edith's attention on the upper floor of a closed, secured apartment building. The building itself is a regal structure and looks very interesting.
Edith was full of helpful information on the sights to see around Vienna and about getting to them via public transport (we left our car parked during our stay and opted to use the hop on hop off bus). She also had a lot of suggestions for dining options which are plentiful in the area.
The unit itself is not as large as advertised (Barouke suite) 1100 sq ft. The biggest drawback and the reason for the 3 stars .... the place is way too crowded with a lot of stuff and hardly much space to keep our things and maneuver around (and we travel very lightly).
Breakfast is pretty lean and basic and we had to remind the host to provide it. One would think a B&B would have both B's covered.
In addition to the ideal location of the place other guests should engage in a conversation with Edith - she has a wealth of memorabilia to share with interesting and unique facts of history she has lived through and she willingly shared her experiences with us.Narayan A
My wife, son, and I spent five great days in Vienna and were very comfortable in Edith's apartment. There was plenty of room for us (we slept downstairs while our son had a big bed in an upstairs loft), two bathrooms, and the main kitchen was well supplied when the local market was closed. The furnishings are truly wonderful - many carpets and comfortable chairs. Edith gave us clear directions for the public transportation, recommended restaurants and other local attractions (like the wonderful flea & farmers markets at Kettenbruckengasse on the way to Schonbrunn), and served us a characteristic Viennese breakfast. The location is great too, just a couple of blocks from the Ring. Wonderful place to stay!Robert Z
We are a family of four who stayed in Vienna over the New Years weekend with another family. The apartment was a great location (easy walk to the center, close to public transport) and comfortable. As described in other reviews, the apartments do not really offer separate rooms per se - but rather a sleeping loft and a big comfortable, eclectic living room with comfortable beds. Edith was very generous with her time and ideas. She arranged dance lessons (viennese waltz) with a private instructor, offered to teach us how to make strudel, arranged taxis and enthusiastically provided recommendations about where to go and not to go to tap into authentic vienna. She offered to make us a special new years meal and provided the kids with gift. Thank you, Edith, for your kindness and support. We had a great stay.BDL
We loved it! And Edith! Perfect location and fabulous hostess! Delicious Christmas eve dinner, a tour of the Vienna woods and Grinzing. Super recommendations on restaurants and where to go in the city. We felt as if we were at our grandmothers/mothers home. We hope to go back again! The Barcelona contingent
We stayed at Edith's apartment for two nights - 2 parents and 3 teenagers. We recommend the apartment very much. Ms. Edith is a wonderful, gracious host with infinite knowledge about Vienna, and we followed some of her recommendations. The apartment is beautifuly furnished and maintained, and the air-condition was a blessing (the temperatures exceeded 32 degrees).
The breakfast was generous.
I'd recommend this apartment highly, and would be glad to return on our next trip.
Thank you, Ms. Edith, for a wonderful stay.Vered Y
My son and I stayed 2 weeks in the Buddha Suite at this charming B&B in the heart of Vienna. We highly recommend it. The rooms are huge by European standards yet quite comfy. Our host, Edith, is quite charming and takes good care of her guests. The home is truly a Bed & Breakfast where you feel at home and part of the family unlike many modern B&Bs where you just feel like your in a small hotel. We loved our stay and Edith. She made arrangements for us to see the sites and even to visit Budapest for a few days where we stayed at another charming B&B run by her son.
The home is Vienna is centrally located, near to everything including the public transport. We could walk to all the sites in the old district and our daily trip by U-Bahn to the university for our robotics conference was easy and quick. We were also able to quickly get the city tram and the bus to travel to places outside the historic district. We are looking forward to visiting here again this coming spring.
Thanks Edith!Linda r
My husband and I stayed here in May, 2011 for 4 nights. Ms Edith was most helpful in suggesting places to visit and showed us how to get around. Not only did she meet us at the bus station, but returned to a different station with us upon our departure. We also enjoyed an orientation walk with her around Vienna. This is an excellent location from which to connect to tram, bus and metro, and there are places to eat nearby.Jacinta M
We stayed with Ms. Edith in mid-March. We were travelling with children. The location is easy to find from both tram and metro. The touring sites were very accessible from the apartment. The best find was the playground directly across the street. The accomodations are clean and spacious. Ms. Edith is very warm and accomodating. The location had many resturaunts with in two blocks both high-end and family friendly. Can't wait to return!Nancy P
Our group of 8 (ranging in age from 9 to 80+), converged in Vienna and had a wonderful 3 day stay in this eclectic apartment. Ms. Edith, a teacher, poet, world traveler and music lover, made this stay even more memorable. She truly worked to make our stay in Vienna wonderful and bring it to life in a special way,
We spent our first day taking a city tour lead by Ms. Edith. Her advice on places to eat and shop and her recommendations were spot on! The apartment’s central location and close proximity to transportation made exploring on our own a breeze! Our departure was made easier with the help of Alex, arrived on time and transported us to the Vienna airport at a reasonable price. We will return to this unique apartment and beautiful city again!Hyacinth M
My family stayed with Ms. Edith during February 2011. We were thrilled with the location of the apartment and how much room we had. The location is central for finding whatever we wanted reasonabily easily. Our children, 9, 11 and 13, enjoyed the park across the street. A bonus is being able to view the park from the windows.
We appreciated Ms. Edith's suggestions on places to go and where to eat. She even outfitted the family for a trip into the "Little Alps" to play in the snow! I never thought I would wear real fur! It truly is warm! Her hot cereal, liverworst with toasted bread fueled us to find whatever adventure we could. We especially enjoyed the ice skating nearby.
We shared an interesting room with an upstairs loft and kitchenette. There were enough beds for all of us! If and when we return, I'll bring my own pillow for my cranky neck.
Ms. Edith is a dynamo that impressed each of us! It was almost as much fun to visit with her and stay in-doors than exploring Vienna. I was thrilled to be able to purchase her autobiographical book as a gift for my Hungarian uncle.
We will never forget our first trip to Vienna and will only wish to return until that day!SrB1
My husband and I stayed with Edith for 4 nights and enjoyed our accomodations very much. We loved the feeling of our suite and felt quite at home there. Edith was extremely helpful with suggestions about where, what and how in Vienna and was a wonderful source of information as we processed the new rush of history our trip to Hungary and Austria had brought on. The location was extremely convenient to anything we wanted to do. It was very close to transportation though our feet could also get us most anyplace we needed to go. I can recommend Edith's place to anyone interested in a stay in Vienna. Thank you, Edith.Loyce T
My family (myself, husband and 2 teenage boys) stayed in the Baroque Suite. It was wonderfully comfy and plenty of space for the 4 of us to spread out. Edith is a wonderful hostess. Her English is excellent, her recommendations for site seeing were spot on and her delicious breakfast sent us on our way for the day feeling full and excited. Perfect location to walk to everything. My teenage boys even enjoyed the park across the street. After only 2 short nights with her, all I can say is we will miss her and definitely ---- until we meet again!!!Barbara W
Edith was both knowledgeable and helpful. The rooms were full of interesting family items. Breakfast was lovely and it was made better by the hostess joining us. The locaion was great, as we could walk to most places and take the convient public transport to the others.
This was a fun first stop on our trip.Judith S
Was this ever the best place to stay! close to the finish line of the Vienna Marathon, clean, safe, public transport only minutes away. The Buddha apartment is clean, large and separate sleeping area available for our son as well. Ms Edith catered extremely well with any unusual breakfast requirements, as well as being extremely helpful with general tourist information, in fact, we will miss her. The apartment is situated in the 'old part' of beautiful Vienna, central, safe, quiet and just so interesting and lovely with antiques, original paintings and comfy beds. You can't go past this place if you are looking to stay in Vienna. The tariff is very reasonable. Highly recommended.Patti & Peter
My wife and I stayed in the Buddha Suite in September of 2009. It was clean and spacious and wonderfully decorated. The breakfast served was terrific (fresh baked rolls!!) as was the breakfast conversations with Edith and the other guests. Very centrally located-- very close to the trams, buses and U-bahn-- so it was easy to see all the sights. Many cafes nearby as well. And Alex will pick you up or drop you off at the train station or airport at a very fair price! No worries about taxi drivers taking advantage of you. All in all a wonderful experience in a beautiful city!Jay Hanagan
This past June, my partner and I had the privilege of
staying in this fabulous apartment, with the
wonderful owner, Edith, who is a gracious, warm,
and excellent host. We had the large suite, with
antiques, separate sleeping area, and enjoyed every
moment of being there. We'd come back and
recommend it to our friends.Liz Benedict
Edith's property is absolutely wonderful. My wife and I stayed in one suite. My father and my son (age 21 - Uinversity California Los Angeles student)stayed in the adjoining suite. All agreed that this was the most enjoyable property we stayed in during our 20 days in Europe.
The location is perfect to walk anywhere of interest, the rooms are large with plenty of sitting area, the beds were confortable, the air condiitoning worked well when needed, the decorations could almost qualify as museum quality - very interesting!!
But, what really made the stay exceptional was Edith's true desire to help us maximize the enjoyment of our visit to Vienna. She gave great directions, hints about non-touristy events, and shared stories about the city that helped bring it to life in a very special way.
We will definately stay here again, and also plan to explore Edith's other properties in Buddapest and San Antonio.Daniel26
The house was perfect for us there was 5 adults and 2 children and we had plenty of room. The house had everything we needed plus! It was super clean. Very neat decor, lots to look at. Loved having coffee in the morning on the back deck. WiFi was awesome! We will definitely stay again.Nicole F
Let me start by saying that the owner was very responsive to emails and the property manager was very helpful to us. That being said let me list some of the issues./
First I would say disregard the picture of the front of the house. A visit from the landscaper is long overdue. The first thing I noticed was the 3 and 4 foot weeds in the middle of the front yard jungle. There was also a large plastic office chair mat in the driveway.
We inspected the inside of the house on arrival and it was in need of some cleaning which was taken care of almost immediately but the call should not have been necessary. We ended up doing some cleaning ourselves because we didn't want to bother the property manager again.
The next thing we found was that there's no way to access the back yard except for going out of the house from the front and around. Once there it's in need of landscaping too. There's no chairs to sit on and there's no barbecue even though the listing says there is one. The biggest issue with this is that if there's a fire by the front door, the only way to get out is to break windows. All of the other doors are locked and unable to be opened.
The kitchen has some spices, oils etc but it also has some microwave popcorn that is gross and old. I would suggest cleaning out the pantry and getting rid of the old stuff. Also having some plastic wrap or bags would be great for leftovers.
The beds were very comfortable as were the couches. We didn't watch a whole bunch of TV but the cable and internet system are more than adequate for a vacation stay. The neighborhood was very quiet which was nice. It's not too far from Walmart or HEB so you can get supplies pretty quickly.
I do feel that the property was over priced for what we got. Like I said earlier, don't pay attention to the picture of the front yard. If it would have looked like that and the house would have been clean, the back yard was accessible and there was actually a barbecue it's definitely worth the money. Until then I wouldn't pay that much for this property.Paul
I will definitely be looking forward to doing it again. My family felt at home.Antonio V
My family went to San Antonio for my Mom's bday. This house is about a 20 minute drive from downtown. It's older but has 4 good sized bedrooms and 3 baths. We tried to sleep 9 since there was a 5th bed but it's not in the best location. It's a small twin and right next to the living room and bathroom so being in the high traffic area obviously doesn't allow for much privacy or sleep for this bed. And there is no door to that area, it's a walkway. The towels are terrible! So scratchy and worn out. They could consider investing in some new towels. Mine literally had a hole in it.
Also, there's a $95 cleaning fee. For the time you're there they do have a good size TV and I know 2 of the bedrooms have TVs too. They didn't have the backdoor unlocked so if we wanted access to the patio we would have to go outside the front and around the house. That was annoying so we didn't go to the backyard. The front yard landscaping was also pretty overgrown and the bushes were in the driveway and walkway when you're trying to load and unload your car. This is minor but annoying. Overall it worked for our quick trip and the caretaker that is the neighbor is very nice and flexible to work with.Cassandra T
We didn't spend much time at the home except to shower and sleep. It worked very well for us (7 adults, 2 kids). The beds were very comfortable and had plenty of sheets and blankets. Kitchen was well equipped and had everything you would need for meals. The three bathrooms make it easy for all of us to get ready for the day. Very close to the military bases and highway system. Also close to the downtown area. Since it was late June early July the A/C was a priority and preformed without issue. Rested very well and was able to enjoy family in the area and some of the SA sites. Very good value and the neighbor was helpful in every way possible.Douglas S
When arriving at the home, the over growth of vegetation takes away from the perfection of the home. We enjoyed being in a neighborhood that has character versus a hotel room. The house was close to everything, the freeway, gas station, walmart ( within two miles), and the reason we came golf. We were never more than 16 minutes away from any golf course. The beds were extremely comfortable and the house provided everything we needed. The next door neighbor was excellent at helping us become settled in the home. I would recommend this home, the price was excellent; remember to bring the cleaning fee $95.00, which doesn't take away from the attractiveness of the deal. Thank you for the use of your homeRodney L
The place was located about 15 minutes from downtown which was nice. It was also very spacious and comfortable.
Upon arrival we noticed the area we were in was a little run down. When we got into the house it was a little different than we were expecting. Overall, the stay was different than we thought but turned out good.Anna M
The neighbors next door, who are in charge of taking care of the place were wonderful. Very pleasant humble people. They actually helped my sisters and I when our car wouldn't start. House is well kept. No complaints.Erica D
We had such a great time in San Antonio!! Having such a great place to stay played a big part in the overall experience. The house is centrally located. Sheri was great! She was available when needed, very friendly, and really cared about making sure we were satisfied. It was great to have a lot of space and for everyone to be able to have their own privacy. It was really neat to be able to look at all of the cool things to look at in the house. It was a bonus for the kids to have access to internet and cable during down time. The house is centrally located. There were plenty of stores and restaurants close. We did not have to go more than 30 minutes to get to anywhere. This is a great place to stay when in San Antonio!! We will be back!!Kathleen W
Very clean every thing I needed was their towels soap ect. Enough room and very safe and neighbor hoodClarissa G
I recently stayed at this location and found the property to be sufficient for the needs that I had for the weekend. The home is spacious and accommodating with a full kitchen that includes a lot of amenities to help you prepare your meals. Having the property manager of the home next door was a plus because she was able to assist with the TV, internet connection when it was lost, as well as providing access to the outdoor grill.
I happened to be there to attend a men's ministry event and did not bring my wife so the atmosphere worked for my needs. My wife would not have been comfortable because the furnishings in the seating area are not very comfortable or inviting and could use some updating. There were some minor issues with insects that could be easily rectified. This is a great place for the person who is comfortable being in an outdoor environment because of the arid garden landscapes in the front and back yard.
The owner and property manager are very responsive and accommodating and went out of their way to ensure the information and assistance that I requested was received. I would use the facility again for my personal needs but not a place I would take my wife because she is used to a more upscale experience.
My only suggestion regarding payment processing would be to include the $95.00 cleaning fee in the initial payment process and not as a note. I have no problem with the fee for cleaning but think it would be more beneficial to clients to see it in a more prominent location.
Thank for making you home available to me for the men's ministry event.

We needed to go to San Antonio for my son's graduation from basic training. Three of us arrived, to the house and was met by the owner. They gave us the tour of the house. The house was more than large enough for our needs. We cooked and ate several times with no problem at all. Sherri, caretaker of the house lives next door and watches the house (with your belongings) while you are not home, so feel safe that your "stuff" is safe. That is a biggie for me. the house is a comfortable house, well kept and improved upon. It is decorated in a lived in cosy decor. We did not feel we have to "watch out" not to break anything. We enjoyed the house, (when not at the military base), and felt safe and more than comfortable.
Thank you Edith
The new airforce family!Allan H
This is a three bedroom property, with plenty of room - depending on your group. There were four of us total, all single guys, and there were enough beds for us to each have one. There is one bed that I would say fits one person comfortably, two that could do two smaller folks, and one is a king.
The living room is spacious enough with two couches and a nice TV. Kitchen is full stove and plenty of dishes to use and lots of room in the dining area. There are many cool things on display the owners have collected and lots of books to read through. The WiFi is free, but is provided by an apple AirPort router, and in the corner bedroom I had little signal on my computer. Speed is about 500 KB/s down and 40 KB/s up - so not very good for lots of people at once or business uploads.
If you book now there is a cleaning fee of $95 - which is provided upfront when you pay. When I booked this last month, I was not made aware of the fee until some weeks after I already had paid everything off. I was told it was apart of the rates, but never saw anything indicating such in the payment invoicing and am now being asked after the fact to pay it.
If this had been provided to me beforehand I'd have no problem, but I just think it shows some unprofessionalism on the owners' side to ask for this money after the fact even when it was presented to me after I paid some several hundred dollars to book.
One other thing to watch for is the A/C unit. Either the owner or the group before us had put it on a schedule to crank down the 65F every morning at 6am the last time it had run and the rapid cooling caused it to leak.Nicholas R
We stayed at Mrs. Beres place for four days as we were attending a wedding. The conditions were as described on the information, the communication throughout the process was clear and the service was excellent. The house has a lot of space and is well kept; everything works well (it would have been nice to have a little more closet space). We were received by the neighbour who gave us the keys and instructions and who was always available in case we needed anything.
Was a great location with lots of places to eat and shop around. We absolutely recommend this place for families or groups of 8-10 people who want to save money instead of going to a hotel.Beaver tail
We stayed here for a week while visiting my husband's hometown. It was my husband, son and my mother, and there was plenty of room. The house is really comfortable and very well-kept. The neighborhood is nice, and the location was central to everything while also being quiet. Having Ms. Sheri, the caretaker who also loves next door, be available for questions was fantastic. This place is lovely, lovely, lovely, and we would love to stay here again. The price was also very reasonable, and we would have spent more and had less if we had stayed in a hotel. Thanks again.Lynne C
We really enjoyed our stay in San Antonio, and really enjoyed the house. It was a real blessing to find some much house for so little money, we were pleasantly surprised at the room we had. There were 4 adults and three children and never did we feel crowded or on top of each other like you would in a hotel room. Everything was clean and in working order and it was just as advertised and pictured on the internet. We will definitely plan to stay here again. Sherry was very helpful and friendly, didn't see her much since everything went so smooth. My 2 year old son loved the backyard, it was like a safari for him. Thank you for opening your home to us.Michael D
Your house was the perfect location during our recent visit to San Antonio to visit my son who is at Ft Sam Houston. Ms Sherri was WONDERFUL....the only issue was figuring out how to work the television and cable remotes, but no worries....Ms Sherri was there to help.
Thank you so much for your hospitality.dcmont
This is an excellent place to stay. What you see in the pics. is exactly what you get. The house is beautiful and the location is great to. We went to Flaot the River, Fiesta Texas, and the River Walk and was in the middle of it all. We will stay here again.Tonya
My mother-in-law, wife, four kids, and I thoroughly enjoyed our week-long stay in this welcoming rental. One of the owners, Edith, was staying on site (the garage has been converted into a bedroom, bathroom, and laundry area) for the first few days and made sure we had everything needed. After Edith left, Ms. Kate (who stayed on site in the converted garage area) continued to feed us very well for breakfast. Also, Tony, who lives two doors down, was available to help if needed. Edith, Kate, and Tony are all splendid folks. Edith gave us excellent local information on what to do, see, etc.
There is an elementary school right up the road with a playground that was a great place for our kids to stretch their legs. The neighborhood has a nice feel. We also found the location excellent because, in addition to travelling into downtown San Antonio (15ish minutes), we did some travelling to the north (Austin and Enchanted Rock National Park) a couple days and the location was perfect for that.
I did not get the chance to let the owners know (so, here it is ...) that I would strongly recommend replacing the see-through curtains in the master bedroom with privay curtains because that bedroom's sliding glass door abuts the owner's office(which was used a few times by the owner while we were there). If a light is on in the master bedroom, someone in the office can see into the master bedroom.
The only other recommendation is that the owners explain immediately upon arrival how to work the home's heating/cooling/air-conditioning system. We went two days/nights until we even knew that we had an air-conditioning option.
One of the reviews on this rental mentioned that the house smells ... I have asthma and that issue alone would have sent me elswhere had this really been an issue. All homes have some smells, but this place allowed me to breath freely and I really didn't notice any smells worth mentioning/thinking about.
Overall ... for budget travellers (especially with a larger group like ours), this rental is well worth it.AlaskaMan
My spouse and another couple stayed here for three days and enjoyed every moment. The folks who manage the property were extremely gracious and helpful in every regard We found the property clean and extremely well equipped. If you are looking for everything to be brand spanking new this property is not for you. If you want a comfortable , clean, affordable spot to stay I would heartily recommend this one. We would certainly return if we were to visit San Antonio againAl
My wife and I (seniors) rented this property for a month. It is located in a quiet residential area on a dead end street. The back yard looks onto a "green belt" like area. There is easy access to the airport, thruway and downtown (we used the city bus express Park and Ride feature which is extremely cheap, fast and convenient). The house looks like and feels like "someones home" - because that is what it is. We enjoyed our stay.
PS: The SA botanical gardens, although small, is a treat!Dianna and George
My wife and I rented this lovely home with two other couples for a week. It was a very comfortable home and worked very well for us all. Irene was extremely helpful and the location was in a very quiet neighborhood. Would definitly recommend this to a friend as a much nicer alternative to a hotel.Stosh
Very clean and comfortable, good value, perfect for family of 5, 15 mins to all downtown attractions
We (family of 5 with 3 teenage boys) rented this house for our trip to the Final Four. It is located right off of I35, 15 mins from all downtown attractions. The house was spotless, very neat and clean. It had all the basics required for a comfortable stay. The wifi was good enough for streaming and the basic cable came with Netflix so our boys weren’t bored during the downtimes. There were grocery stores, Walmart and chain restaurants within a mile so getting whatever we needed wasn’t an issue. The neighborhood was nice and safe with most houses well maintained and there is a Catholic church and school directly across the street and a new piblic school and playground 2 blocks away.
The beds and pillows were comfortable and each room had a ceiling fan to keep things cool. I would recommend however that they invest in some newer/thicker wash clothes and towels. The ones that are there are a little old and thin.
The house is located about 1/2 mi from railroad tracks and is near the flight path of an airport so there was some background noise at times but nothing horrible.
Lastly, Ms. Brown who is the caretaker for the owners was very helpful and attentive. She lives a couple of blocks away and was a great resource for details about the property and surrounding community.
This house was a great value for us, much better and cheaper than trying to book 2 hotel rooms for this Easter and Final four weekend. It was big enough that everyone had there own space and even with the big events in the city it was less than 20 mins in or out each time.Phil M
